What is it that your heart wants? What do you want to achieve in this life? What is your dream?
I hope you have noticed this by now – God uses people to bless people.
Therefore, what you are looking for, what you desire is with someone. Interesting. The puzzle is, who has it? But with no trace of doubt, your blessing is with someone somewhere.
Now if we all now agree your blessing is with someone, have you considered this – that you are a blessing to someone. The big question, therefore, is, in the same way you badly want to meet that person who has your blessing, have you considered this, you carry someone’s blessing and that person is looking to meet you equally badly.
Now that you want someone to be a blessing to you, have you considered being a blessing to someone.
Wow. Let us look at the story of Jesus. Every one of us do know about him and why he came. At first, God wanted us to live in the Garden of Eden serving him and worshipping him. But when we fell what happened? He didn’t sit in heaven and say, “I will wait till those guys down there will know who I am and they will come to me”. No!
Check what he did. He came down from heaven to earth to show us the way. He left his majesty and power and humbly came down. Why? His intention is that we may go to him. But we couldn’t figure it out. So what did he do? He came to us first.
I love the sweet song by Donnie Mcclurkin which says;
Lord I lift Your name on high
Lord I love to sing Your praises
I’m so glad You’re in my life
I’m so glad You came to save us
You came from heaven to earth
To show the way
From the earth to the cross
My debt to pay
From the cross to the grave
From the grave to the sky
Lord I lift Your name on high
From that little illustration, it is clear, God came down to you first before you went to him. Therefore, now that he has come down to you, are you ready to go down for someone. What do I mean?
Let us look at one rich man who forgave a person who had a debt but the person went out and did not forgive another person who had his debt. What happened? He was condemned and jailed. Why? He did not appreciate what had been done to him.
Therefore, today, God has done something special for you. He has given you life, health, skills and a job. Are you ready to show you appreciate by going down for someone to show him or her the way, to show love? Are you ready?
The extra mile
Are you ready to go an extra mile? Are you ready to be a blessing to someone?
Check what the bible says, you sow what you reap. The question, therefore is, what are you sowing today. What good things are you doing today? What kind of blessing are you becoming to someone?
If you desire promotion, have you ever promoted someone else? Have you ever made someone feel, “wow, you are so awesome?” If you are desiring financial provision, have you ever given someone money?
In relationships, we say; ‘don’t look for a good girlfriend, just be the good boyfriend and vice versa’ In marriage, the equation doesn’t change; ‘don’t look for the good husband, be the good wife and vice versa.’
Let us now come to business; we drag the statement here to say; ‘don’t look for a good employer, be the good employee’, ‘don’t look for good customers, be the good service provider.’
Awesome argument, isn’t it? How beautiful would it be if we all subscribed to this argument?
Stand to be counted
Perhaps someone would feel some pride when working for a big company. But here is the truth, the big company you see out there was once where you are today.
The big boys and girls you see out there, were once where we are today. The question, therefore is, when we get there, because surely we will, will you stand to be counted? Will you be there? Will we remember your efforts and appreciate you?
The other day I was looking at some of the world multinational companies and I discovered a number of them started in a garage. Name them, Hewlett and Packard – HP, Google in 1998 was in a garage, in 1976 Apple company was in a garage, in 1994 Amazon was in a garage.
What do these stories teach us? You do not need to be great to start, you can be great if you only you start.
Today, like Google, it is your 1994, what are you going to do with it?
I love the story of Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest person. He started with borrowed money and today he is worth over $12 billion. By the time he started, it was 1977 when he was 20 years.
Today, some of us are in the same bracket. Are you going to stand in the gap and put forth your effort? Will be counted?
Wash dirty dishes
Let us wrap up by sharing a story I learnt recently.
The other day in my house I discovered my fingers and hands were dirty. At some point, I started washing my dirty dishes in the sink. Guess what I realized! my dirty hands were getting clean and the dishes were getting clean too.
What do I mean? If you want to be successful, you must make other people become successful also. If you want to be happy, make someone else happy. In the process of making someone happy and helping someone to be successful, you are ultimately sowing your seeds of success.
Therefore, when you are in this company, seek to do good, seek to make it prosper because in the process you will prosper.
And as we have said, today it is our 1998 like Google. The founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin if they made it, we can also make it. Nothing can stop us.
Les Brown Story
Let me end by sharing the story of Les Brown. He is an international motivational speaker. At one point he wanted to work in a radio station. However, he had no training in journalism. But on one Monday morning he went to one of the radio stations and asked if the company had a job vacancy. They told him no. He came back on Tuesday and they told him to go away. He came back on Wednesday and introduced himself and they never told him to return. He came back on Thursday and they told him to go away. On Friday he came back and they could not send him away, the director of the station told him to become a coffee boy. He finally got the job.
As we build on this dream, are you embracing an unstoppable spirit? A spirit that knows no mountain or challenges or setbacks.
Finally, the world will get better when you get better.
